With the new year well on its way, many of us have made various personal resolutions related to our health. I think it is a great time to think of our dog’s health too. There are several quick easy things you can do that that can drastically improve the health of your best friend.
Brush his teeth
- Oral health is frequently overlooked in dogs. A quick toothbrush using a dog (non-fluoride) flavored toothpaste is a great way to help fight oral issues including bad breath. Best if done daily, it will take some time to really notice a difference.
Take him for a walk
- A daily walk is good for both you and your dog. It does not even have to be a long walk for benefits. Spending time together grows your bond, and giving your dog new sights and smells will give him something to be exciting to think about.
Throw the ball
- Or frisbee, or a squeaky toy, or….anything really. A dog who enjoys a good game of fetch will love you for playing with him. Mix it up and add thinking skills by asking for a sit or a trick before the next throw. I find it best to use two toys that are the same to make the game faster.
Teach him a new trick
- The more you ask your dog to think the more they will think. Once you have a few basic tricks mastered, think outside the box and come up with your own. Make sure you have plenty of treats.Whatever you decide, go out and have fun with your best friend!
