Equine West Nile Virus

Equine West Nile Virus is becoming an epidemic in the Treasure Valley. Most horses that are infected will clear the virus with little or no symptoms. Close to 50% horses that develop acute West Nile Virus symptoms will die. There is a Vaccine for horses. The Vaccine can be applied by the horse owner or a veterinarian. The vaccine is a shot that must be given twice 30 days apart. A yearly booster then must be given every year. This vaccine is available at all Zamzows.

For help in assessing mosquito exposure risks on your property and for suggested control practices, please contact your county Extension office, county Department of Environmental Protection, local Department of Health, local veterinarian, or a mosquito and pest control company.
